The Robert Barnard collection includes the manuscripts, correspondence, and notebooks.
Manuscripts included are those for Barnard's novels and one short story. Novels include Death of an Old Goat (1974), A Little Local Murder (1976), Blood Brotherhood (1977), Death on the High C's (1977), Unruly Son (1978), Posthumous Papers (1979), Death in a Cold Climate (1980), Mother's Boys (1981), Sheer Torture (1981), Death and the Princess (1982), The Missing Bronte (1983), Little Victims (1983), A Corpse in a Gilded Cage ( 1984), Out of the Blackout (1985), Disposal of the Living (1985), Political Suicide (1986), Long to Reign Over Us, and The Resurrection Men. Also included is the short story “The Parsonage Museum Director Row.”
Manuscripts of Barnard's non-fiction writings include Imagery and Theme in the Novels of Dickens (1974), A Talent to Deceive: An Appreciation of Agatha Christie (1980), A Handbook to Edwin Drood, and The Wild Workshop (unpublished).
Correspondence includes transcripts of professional letters to and from Christianna Brand.
Also present in the collection are two notebooks containing drafts of unidentified works.
