Carrighar, Sally (1895-1985)
The collection of Sally Carrighar consists of manuscript material, correspondence, printed material, photographs, and illustrations.

Manuscripts in the collection include a typed draft with printer’s marks, three sets of galleys, and two sets of page proofs for Wild Heritage (1965); a film treatment typescript and final narration script for Walt Disney Productions’ film version of One Day at Teton Marsh (1964); an incomplete typed outline by chapter and a typed draft of One Day On Beetle Rock (1965); and a working carbon typed draft with Carrighhar’s holograph corrections, as well as the original typed manuscript with holograph corrections and printer’s marks, for The Twilight Seas: A Blue Whale’s Journey (1975).

The collection includes correspondence both personal (primarily fan mail) and professional (primarily with publishers), including Doubleday & Co., Houghton Mifflin Co., and Alfred A. Knopf & Co.  There are letters to Carrighar directly from Alfred A. Knopf, as well as correspondence from Walt Disney Productions (1955-1963) related to Disney’s interest in nature films.  While most of the Disney correspondence is from Jim Algar, Associate Producer of Disney Films, there is one letter to Carrighar from Walt Disney, dated January 4, 1965.

Printed material includes seventeen magazines with articles by Carrighar (1943-1965) as well as a number of tearsheets of Carrighar’s articles appearing in a variety of magazines (1944-1970).

There are a number of publicity photographs of Carrighar, as well as the original photographs used as illustrations in Wild Voice of the North (1959).  The collection also includes the illustrations for Icebound Summer (1955) and One Day On Beetle Rock (1965).

The collection includes a set of scrapbooks with a variety of publicity materials and reviews, individually collected for The Glass Dove, Icebound Summer, Moonlight at Midday, One Day On Beetle Rock, One Day at Teton Marsh, The Twilight Seas, and Wild Heritage.
