Chakravarty, Amiya (1901-1986)
Scope:
The Amiya Chakravarty collection primarily consists of correspondence to and from him with various significant individuals.  Also present are photographs and other items.

The correspondence to Chakravarty dates, on the whole, from 1915 to 1974.  These are primarily personal letters, with a few manuscript fragments and printed pieces included.  Notable correspondents include e. e. cummings, Albert Einstein, Robert Frost, Indira Gandhi, Mohandas Gandhi, Aldous Huxley, Robert Lowell, Thomas Mann, Thomas Merton, Jawaharlal Nehru, Robert Oppenheimer, Boris Pasternak, Ezra Pound, Satyajit Ray, Diego Rivera, Albert Schweitzer, George Bernard Shaw, and H. G. Wells.

Photographs in the collection include prints of Martin Buber, Albert Einstein, Robert Frost, Mohandas Gandhi, Helen Keller, Jawaharlal Nehru, Kwame Nkrumah, Boris Pasternak, and Albert Schweitzer.

Other items in the collection include professional letters, newspaper clippings, published writings by Chakravarty, various brochures and announcements, and a flower-spring taken from Leo Tolstoy’s garden in 1932.
