Dolci, Danilo (1924-1997)
The Danilo Dolci collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, printed material, and other items.

The manuscript in the collection is a draft of Dolci’s poetry anthology Creatura di Creature: Poesie, 1949-1978 (Feltrinelli, 1979).

Correspondence in the collection includes almost two thousand letters from Dolci to various individuals (1958-1982) as well as several letters to Dolci from others.  Notable correspondents include Cesar Chavez, Aldous Huxley, Martin Niemoller, Laurence Olivier, Jean Piaget, Bertrand Russell, Italo Calvino, Alberto Moravia, Ignazio Silone, Noam Chomsky, Henry Kissinger, Linus Pauling, and many others.

Photographs in the collection include several photos of Dolci and his associates, as well as a photo of Cesar Chavez with a signed inscription to Dolci.

Printed material in the collection includes newspaper columns by Dolci for L’Ora (1961, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1972); two articles for Saturday Review (1967 and 1968); articles and poetry in six issues of the Russian journal Foreign Literature (1958-1960); and publications and other items regarding the Centro Studi e Iniziative in Partinico founded by Dolci, including newsletters, a scrapbook of articles and photos regarding the Centro, publicity, and fund-raising documents.

Other material in the collection includes radio broadcast transcripts (May 1982); legal material regarding the suit against Inchiesta a Palermo; anti-Mafia documents; Dolci’s remarks on winning the Lenin Peace Prize (1958); Dolci’s passport (1970); posters and leaflets by and about Dolci; and other items.
