Einstein, Albert (1879-1955)
The Albert Einstein collection is separated into two sections. Section one is all original material, and section two consists of photocopies of the Einstein papers present at Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Section one consists of five personal letters from Albert Einstein to various individuals, including Marie and Rosa Winteler, as well as a letter to Einstein from his friend Jakob Ehrat. These letters date from 1896 to 1914. Also included are seven letters from Pauline Einstein (Albert's mother) to members of the Winteler family, dating from 1896 to ca. 1903, as well as a letter from Robert Einstein to the Einstein family (undated). Also present in this section is a scientific letter from Albert Einstein to Ernst Strauss, dated ca. 1945 or 1946, regarding the single particle solution for the unified field theory. Translations of all the above letters are present in the collection.
Section two consists of several boxes of scientific manuscripts and notebooks, scientific correspondence, non-scientific manuscripts, diaries, personal notebooks, and non-scientific correspondence. This material dates from ca. 1901 to 1955. For more detailed information on the contents of this section, please contact either the Hebrew University in Jerusalem or the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center.
