The Charles Fox collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, research material, printed material, professional material, and other items.
Manuscripts by Fox in the collection include books by Fox, such as Double Blind (1985-1992); Don’t Scare the Horses (also titled Making the Way; ca. 2003); The American Beauty Rose (1982); Variations on a Theme (1999-2000); The Ear (2005-2007); The Ear: The Uncommon Youth of J. Paul Getty III (2011); The Noble Enemy (also titled The Natural Enemy); A Place Without; draft fragments; and story outlines. Short stories in the series are comprised of “The Breakdown of Manners” (1990); “Bruce and Denny,” (1990); and “Marguerite” (2001), among other titles. Also included is a screenplay by Fox titled Grizzly Man, along with stage play fragments; speeches; lectures; and essays by Fox.
Correspondence in the collection includes personal and professional correspondence, including 40 letters (1980-2000) and six files of letters grouped by subject, including: automobile; Cycle magazine; “Hawkin” June 8, 1988; Sports Illustrated; The Noble Enemy; and publications. Notable correspondents in the series includes Jack Forrester and Abel Green (1963-1975); Warner Brothers and the Getty Family (1986-1993); and Jud Kinsberg (2005). Also included is a letter from Luther Nichols suggesting changes to Double Blind.
Research material in the collection consists of various files on The Ear.
Printed material in the collection includes proofs for The Noble Enemy (1979-1980) and The Pom (1997); an issue of the “Institute of Noetic Sciences Newsletter” (Fall 1986); and various articles, magazines, pamphlets, and booklets dating from 1974 to 1991.
Professional material in the collection includes subject files on topics such as Jack Forrester/Abel Green/Variety (1973); medical information (1991); and Amand Absolon, among other items.
Other items in the collection include a certificate regarding U.S. highway 50; financial material; and legal material.
