The Gael Greene collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, printed material, professional material, financial material, audio material, memorabilia, and other items.
Manuscripts by Greene in the collection primarily consist of numerous restaurant reviews and other short pieces on cuisine, including numerous reviews written for New York magazine. Other manuscripts include her books Bite (1972); Blue Skies, No Candy (1976); Doctor Love (1982); Delicious Sex (1986); and Insatiable: What I Ate While America Fell in Love with Food (2006); as well as various articles, speeches, interviews, chapter fragments and excerpts, and other items.
Correspondence in the collection consists of many personal and professional letters, dating from ca. 1950 to 2010. Several letters are present from chefs and restaurant owners. Notable correspondents include Julia Child, Bobby Flay, Thomas Keller, Leonard Lauder, Pierre Philippe Saussy, and Liz Smith.
Printed material in the collection mainly consists of the printed versions of Greene’s New York magazine restaurant reviews. Additional magazines in the series, dating from the 1960s to 2010s, include Hamptons Cottages and Gardens; Manhattan; Parade Magazine; Satisfaction Magazine; Time; and others. Also present are numerous restaurant menus collected by Greene in the course of her research, as well as various press releases from restaurants, hotels, and other hospitality and culinary establishments. Newspaper and magazine clippings about Greene, various culinary magazines, and other miscellaneous items are also included.
Professional material in the collection consists of menus; appointment books; business cards; contact numbers; memos; press releases; press kits and passes; schedules and itineraries; various subject files; and other items.
Financial material in the collection includes expense reports; bills; receipts; royalty statements; tax information; and other items, which date from the 1950s to 2010s.
Audio material in the collection includes a CD titled “Arthur Schwarchz Interview 12/02” (2002) and a CD regarding “Terrace in the Sky 30th Anniversary Gala” (2006), among others.
Memorabilia in the collection includes tickets for transportation, plays, events, and museums; a medallion regarding Veuve Clicquot; a hat and apron from the Food Network Wine and Food Festival; pieces of cloth inscribed “Fiesta Cincuenta Invitation”; and other various items, including juvenilia.
Other material in the collection includes items regarding Greene’s work for Citymeals-on-Wheels; material regarding Greene’s marriage to Donald Faust; items pertaining to Craig Claiborne’s seventieth birthday celebration; a bound diary from 1977; legal material; notebooks, which include restaurant research; research material for Delicious Sex; film and video, including a VHS tape titled “Gael Greene Author of Insatiable”; and various photographs of Greene and others.
