Halsell, Grace (1923-2000)
Scope:
The Grace Halsell collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, and printed material.

The collection includes manuscripts for many of Halsell’s non-fiction books: Soul Sister (World Publishing, 1969), Peru (Macmillan, 1969), Black/White Sex (Morrow, 1972), Evers, A Frank Autobiography of Charles Evers (World, 1972), and Bessie Yellowhair (Morrow, 1973), as well as an unpublished item titled The Ladies and King Sorrel. Many manuscripts are accompanied by research materials and proofs and marked with holograph corrections.

The collection includes correspondence that Halsell conducted with Beverley Grabow and Lynell Wiley (1970-71). 

Printed materials in the collection consist of galley proofs, tearsheets of June Jordan’s "Mississippi – Black Home," newsclippings, book requests slips, and card catalog indexes. A carbon typescript of a Peruvian diary kept between 1959 and 1960 is present, as well.
