Johnson, Jesse J. (1914-2006)
The Jesse J. Johnson collection includes a manuscript, correspondence, personal memorabilia, printed materials, professional materials, and photographs.

The collection includes a manuscript for Johnson's Ebony Brass (William-Frederick, 1967). The manuscript is typescript with holograph corrections.

The collection also includes correspondence collected from 1947 to 1961.

Collected personal memorabilia includes assorted juvenilia (grades, transcripts, academic records), dated from 1935 to 1964. Other items include U.S. Army records and orders (1945-1962), certificates, and personal records.

Printed materials consist of advertising circulars, reviews, news clips, and various items pertaining to The Black Soldier and A Pictorial History of Black Soldiers in the United States (1619-1969) In Peace and War. Additional printed items of note include editions of The Black Solider and Ebony Brass, each of which contain Johnson's autograph inscription.

Collected professional materials include correspondence, forms, memos, and a certificate regarding recommendations for jobs and promotions (1942-1967).

Also present is a photograph album documenting Johnson’s family, as well as his Army and authorial careers.
