Kampen, Irene (1922-1998)
Scope:
The Irene Kampen collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, printed materials, legal materials, and diaries and journals.

The collection includes manuscripts for both full-length works and shorter articles.

Collected full-length manuscripts include The Patty Ziegfeld Story, Life Without George, Europe Without George, Last Year at Sugarbush, We That Are Left, Here Comes the Bride, Due to Lack of Interest Tomorrow has been Cancelled, Nobody Calls at the Hour Just to Say Hello, and Fear Without Childbirth.

Collected short manuscripts include "Caution: Husband at the Wheel," "The Foof," "Homecoming," "The Lucky Woman," "That Certain Kind of a Miracle," and "Genes and the Del Mar Racetrack," among others.

Correspondence in the collection (primarily 1968-1969) consists of fan letters, as well as many exchanges with Sally Arteseros (Associate Editor at Doubleday). Other notables include Faith Baldwin, Monica Dickens, Morris Fishbein, and Monica McCall.

Printed materials include a number of publications in which Kampen's work appeared, such as Chatelaine, Good Housekeeping, Homes and Gardens, Housewife, Ladies' Home Journal, McCall's, Modern Bride, Redbook, Village Voice, Woman's Day, and Women's Weekly. Also present are book gifts of Europe Without George, Here Comes the Bride; There Goes the Mother, Last Year at Sugarbush, Life Without George, We That are Left, and Are You Carrying Any Gold or Living Relatives. A "Career Day Program" from Frank Scott Bunnell High School (featuring Kampen as speaker); a "619 Social Calendar" (containing a column by Kampen); and a photocopy of the "Kampen's Korner" column constitute additional materials. Items pertaining to The Lucy Show, including a cut-out coloring book, a comic book, and paper dolls, may be of particular interest.

The collection's legal materials chronicle Kampen's book contracts and miscellaneous legal documentation from 1960 to 1978.

Also collected are 24 diaries and journals that Kampen maintained between 1961 and 1984.
