The Lenard Kaufman collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, personal memorabilia, printed materials, and photographs.
The collection includes manuscripts for a number of Kaufman’s novels, such as Tender Mercy, The Lower Part of the Sky, Troubled Waters (unpublished), Medicine Man, Diminishing Return, Color of Green, The Man with the Red and Green Eyes, Jubel’s Children, and Memento of Love. A television script titled "Jubelove deti" (a Czechoslovakian edition of Jubel’s Children) is present, as well.
Collected correspondence is organized under headings that include "Fan Mail," "Critics," "Miscellaneous," and "Publishers and Agents." Additional exchanges with Ralph Rose regarding dramatic adaptations of Kaufman’s works are also present.
Personal memorabilia consists of clippings and a certificate of commendation concerning Kaufman’s military service.
The collection’s printed materials include clippings; reviews; publicity items; and galley proofs for a number of Kaufman’s novels. Collected magazines, such as Prairie Schooner, Talent Magazine, This Week Magazine, Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, and Misterio Magazine de Ellery Queen (Brazilian edition of Ellery Queen), constitute additional items. A comprehensive book collection of Kaufman’s work is included, as well, many of which appear in foreign language editions and are signed by Kaufman.
Photographs in the collection consist of snapshots and portraits, one of which captures Kaufman with his wife.
