LaForge, Frank (1879-1953)
The Frank LaForge collection consists of sheet music, manuscripts, correspondence, professional material, printed material, and material regarding Lily Pons (1898-1976).

Sheet music in the collection includes several handwritten and printed scores for works composed or arranged by LaForge.  Also present are many pieces (handwritten and printed)  by various composers and lyricists, as well as some printed anthologies.

Manuscripts in the collection include two drafts for the stage play Romance, by Edward Seldon; one draft has extensive handwritten annotations by soprano Nanette Guilford (1904-1990).  Also present are two radio scripts dated 1937, one from the Metropolitan Opera Guild and one for Henry Weber’s Concert Revue.

Correspondence in the collection includes personal letters to and from LaForge.    

Professional material consists of schedules and a score for an “accompanying class” taught by LaForge, as well as several pages of handwritten and printed lyrics sent unsolicited to La Forge.

Printed material in the collection includes material regarding the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals of 1936, including travel information, correspondence, brochures, and seating plans; clippings from various magazines and newspapers, and an issue of PM magazine from Apr. 13, 1945.

The material regarding Lily Pons includes six bound volumes of scores, with gold-stamped titles and the name “Lily Pons” on the cover.  One score is signed, and two are stamped with Pons’ name.  The scores include Echo Song, by H.R. Bishop, arranged by LaForge; Dancing Doll, by Poldini, arranged by LaForge; Ay Ay Ay, by Friere; Variations, by Mozart, arranged by LaForge, signed by Pons; Variations, by Proch, arranged by LaForge; and Fledermaus Fantasy, by Strauss, arranged by LaForge.  Other items include twenty pages of printed scores, stamped with Pons’ name; a scrapbook regarding LaForge from 1939, inscribed by Lily Pons and including two photographs of LaForge and Pons; and various programs and clippings regarding Pons.
