The Lindsay Patterson collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, printed materials, and other items.

Manuscripts include novels, short stories, stage plays, screenplays, poetry, lyrics, anthologies, essays, reviews, articles and other items. Published works include Rock Against the Wind: Black Love Poems (Dodd, Mead 1973), anthologized works, anthologies edited by Patterson, and several shorter works printed in such periodicals as The New York Times, Playbill, Essence, and others.

Correspondence includes personal and professional items written between the 1960s and 2003. Correspondents of note include A.S. Burack, Maya Angelou, James Patterson, President William Jefferson Clinton, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and others.

Printed materials include published short works by Patterson, reviews, clippings, programs, and other items.
