Scott, Natalie Anderson (1906-1983)

The Natalie Anderson Scott collection consists of manuscripts, printed material, and other items.

Manuscripts by Scott in the collection include her novels The Story of Mrs. Murphy, chapter one (Dutton, 1947); The Husband, chapter three (Dutton, 1949); Romance, chapter three (Dutton, 1951); The Little Stockade, chapter one (Dutton, 1954); Grishka, complete draft (unpublished, ca. 1955); Salvation Johnny, chapter one (Doubleday, 1958); and Golden Trollop, complete draft (Doubleday, 1961). Other manuscripts by Scott include two unpublished short stories, "The Book" and "Silver for My Jesus," the latter written under the name Natalie B. Sokoloff; as well as a short story in Russian. Most of the above items include contracts, correspondence, and printed material related to the manuscript.

Printed material in the collection includes tearsheets of seven short stories by Scott (writing as Natalie B. Sokoloff), published in the magazine Adventure(1931-1932); reviews and advertisements regarding Scott's novels; dust jackets for three of Scott's books; a condensed version of The Story of Mrs. Murphy for the French edition of Onmibook (1948); and a copy of Scott's book So Brief the Years, written as Natalie B. Sokoloff (Dodd, Mead and Company, 1935), inscribed to Scott's sister Nina.

Other material in the collection includes two photographs of Scott, some fan mail regardingThe Story of Mrs. Murphy, and two biographical pieces about Scott.
