Sterry, Rick (1938- )
The Rick Sterry collection consists of manuscripts, printed material, correspondence, and other material.

Manuscripts in the collection are extensive and include numerous works in different genres. Manuscripts include novels, including Over the Fences (1968), The Blizzard of '32 (2014), and several other unpublished or unfinished  book manuscripts, some untitled screenplays, numerous short stories, articles, essays, some poetr,y and an unpublished section of a high school text book. The collection also contains several handwritten notebooks with preliminary ideas regarding characters, situations and stories. Manuscripts date from the 1960s to 2003 and include much unpublished work.

Printed material in the collection consists largely of published printed pieces such as short stories, essays, and articles written for magazines and journals from 1964 to 2002. The collection also contains several newspaper and magazine clippings regarding Sterry and his published work, a published pamphlet on the 1972 Winter Olympics written by Sterry, and some other miscellaneous publicity material.

The collection also consists of several personal and professional letters and other letters sent to and from Sterry to agents, publishers, editors, and most numerously, friends and family. Notable correspondents include faculty administration at Northern Montana College, book and magazine editors and publishers, Sterry’s wife, Cassy, Sterry’s mother and father, his childhood friend Darryl Patrick, Senator Bob Packwood, and his brother Craig Sterry. Letters in the collection date from 1957 to 2000.  

Other material in the collection includes photographs, legal documents, bumper stickers, and several journals and diaries. Photographs in the collection consist of numerous prints in color and black and white, dating from the 1940s to the 1970s; and journals and diaries dating from 1969 to 2008. Each journal is handwritten, and they are interleaved with printed material, photographs, slides, correspondence, manuscripts, and financial material.
