Stevens, Shane (1941-2007)
The Shane Stevens collection consists of manuscripts, printed material, correspondence, and other material.

Manuscripts in the collection are extensive and include several drafts, corrections, loose pages, and final versions of novels, book reviews, and other pieces.  Novels include Go Down Dead (1966), Way Uptown in Another World (1971), The Anvil Chorus (1985), By Reason of Insanity (1978), Dead City (1973), Rat Pack (1974), Jersey Tomatoes (1986), and Hot Tickets (1987), among others. Other drafts include several versions of the numerous book reviews, articles and essays written by Stevens for several different publications, including the New York Times Book Review.

Printed material in the collection dates from 1967 to 1985, and  mainly consists of printed and signed versions of articles, essays, and book reviews written by Stevens at various times; as well as publishers' proofs and publicity material.  Stevens wrote for several different magazines and newspapers over his career including The New York Times Book Review, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Writer, The New Orleans Review, Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, and The Washington Post, creating a large portfolio of published book reviews.

Correspondence in the collection is all professional, with numerous letters to and from Stevens regarding fellowships, contributions, memberships, information requests, and book publications.

Other items in the collection include black and white photographs regarding Stevens and his family; one audio tape recording used as publicity for By Reason of Insanity; research material used for books, including maps of New York, newspaper clippings, and advertisements; and legal and financial documents, mostly contracts, regarding agreements and royalties.
