Roberts, Mary M. (1877-1959)
Scope:
The Mary M. Roberts collection consists of manuscripts, research material, correspondence, photographs, and printed material.

Manuscripts in the collection include: class notes taken by Roberts as a student at Teachers College, Columbia University (1919-1921); notes on Catholic nursing; notes on Mennonites; American Hospital Association Reports on Nursing; book captions and illustrations; and a notebook labeled "Washington, May 1951."

Research material includes files of material related to Roberts' book American Nursing: History and Interpretation, containing handwritten and typed notes (ca. 1954).

Correspondence in the collection includes personal and professional letters to and from Roberts.  Professional correspondence includes several letters regarding Roberts' book American Nursing: History and Interpretation; and letters to and from various hospitals and medical organizations.  Notable correspondents include Margaret Arnstein, Lucile Petry Leone, Pearl McIver, Lucy D. Germain, Muriel C. Henry, Lucy Seymer, and others.  Also present is a letter to Roberts from Sister Martidde (1929) concerning a set of photographs (described below).

Photographs in the collection include a set of photographs sent to Richards from Sister Martidde (noted above) in Norway; they consist of images of Roberts and various others traveling by ship, as well as a picture postcard.  Other photographs include the International Red Cross Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland (1954); the Garden Front of Nurses' House; part of the Dining Room of nurses' House; and the Beach house.

Printed material includes a booklet from the Florence Nightingale Centenary Foundation, 1820-1920 (1920); certificate of incorporation and by-laws of the New York State League for Nursing (1954); two specimens of typesetting for Roberts' American Nursing (ca. 1954); St. George's Bulletin (1957); The Cosmopolitan Club, New York City, Open House program (1958) and printed brochure (1959); The New York Committee of the Frontier Nursing Service, Inc. program (1959); notice from the Literary Guild, Garden City, New York; and other miscellaneous items.
