Day, Philip E. (1916-1989)
The Philip E. Day collection consists of manuscripts, printed material, photographs, and memorabilia.
Manuscripts written by Day include drafts of course material and professional papers, as well as drafts of talks for programs in which he participated (1950s-1964). Manuscripts by others include articles and papers by various authors (ca. 1960s-1975).
Printed material in the collection consists of reprints of articles by Day from a number of publications (1962-1975); newspaper clippings concerning male nurses, the Vermont State Nurses Association, and Day's career (1956-1972); and programs from functions either attended by Day or to which he contributed (1958-1964).
There are a number of photographs in the collection, both black and white and color, in varying sizes and formats (1956-1970s). Several of the photographs are identified with names and dates; among these are photos of Day; some are from The American Journal of Nursing Banquet.
Memorabilia in the Day collection includes the oath of office Day took as a U.S. Postal Clerk (1932); a certificate from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing for Men (1936); a copy of his US Army Discharge (1945), as well as his Honorable Discharge papers (1948, 1952); a Service Star wallet, presented to him by the Frankford congregational church, Philadelphia (1946); and his University of Pennsylvania reports and grades (1952-1955) plus commencement tickets (1955).
