Massachusetts Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association
Scope:

The Massachusetts Memorial Hospitals Nurses Alumnae Association collection contains financial material, printed material, memorabilia, manuscripts, research material, professional material, legal material, correspondence, and photographs.

Financial material includes a payroll book from 1906 to 1908, as well as Student-Faculty Finance Records from 1947 to 1962. A budget and Audit for the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps of WWII from 1944 to 1949, as well as cash records from 1965 to 1971, treasurer’s accounts from 1943 to 1892, and tax exemptions from 1985.

Printed material includes an undated article, “History of the U.S. Army Base Hospital”; a collection of undated Cadet Nurse Pamphlets; and various nursing magazines from 1942 to 1945, including Professional Nursing and Nursing News. Various volumes of The Alumnae Bulletin from 1920 to 2015, as well as articles regarding nurses in the world wars from Seattle Post-Intelligencer and San Francisco Examiner from 1989 to 1999 are also included, among other items.

Memorabilia includes a collection of undated diplomas, a framed document for honorary membership into the MMHNAA from 1974, and nursing uniforms from various hospitals from 1885 to 1962. Also included is an MMH School of Nursing Pin from the class of 1945, and an undated commemorative MMHNAA dinner plate.

Manuscripts include various graduation addresses from Boston University colleges between 1924 and 1950, as well as a “Proposed Plan of Training” by Dr. Alan Winter Rowe from 1918, among other items.

Research material includes grading studies of various students , as well as various student records from 1886 to 1962.

Professional material includes faculty procedures and handbooks from 1950 to 1964, questionnaires regarding the Mass. State Nursing Association and Wartime, and a collection of pamphlets, announcements, and bulletins from 1919 to 1960. Also included are reports of the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital from 1947 to 1958, and examinations from 1904 to 1925. A Red Cross Portfolio from 1942, Public Law of the 74th to 78th U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps Congress, and assorted reports from committees and organizations from the School of Nursing from 1926 to 1964. Membership lists from 1980 to 2012, as well as assorted reports regarding graduation and alumnae from 1941 to 1970 are also included.

Legal material includes agreements between various universities and the Mass. Memorial Hospital School of Nursing from 1910 to 1939, among other items.

Correspondence includes an undated letter regarding a survey of the Accrediting Service from 1950 to 1961.

Photographs include a black and white print of the class of 1938, as well as a “50th Anniversary” photo from the Hotel Statler from 1945. Also included is a black and white print of the Homeopathic Hospital School of Nursing Graduating Class of 1946.
