Chiesa, Ron Della (1938- )
The Ron Della Chiesa collection includes printed material, photographs, correspondence, artwork, and memorabilia.

Printed material in the collection mostly consists of press clippings, promotional material, and programs related to WGBH radio and other events organized by Della Chiesa himself.  General press clippings concerning the career of Della Chiesa cover the years 1983-1992.  WGBH promotional material includes: a single-page piece for American Airwaves, with a photograph of Della Chiesa in the studio; segments from the WGBH Radio 89.7 Club booklets from Spring 1991 and Fall 1991; and GBH Members Magazine.  Promotional material includes: a flier from "Jazz Around Town! with Ron Della Chiesa"; "History of Jazz with the Jazz Pops Ensemble with host Ron Della Chiesa" (a flier with photographs of Della Chiesa and the Jazz Pops Ensemble, Young at Arts, Wang; a flier with caricatures advertising Celebrity Bartender Night at the Lobby Bar, Lafayette Hotel (1988);  Hosts on the Air and Water, a promotional piece for two cruises, one with Ron Della Chiesa, and one with Robert J. Lurtsema; Louis and Lucille Armstrong Music Fund Concert 10th Anniversary Celebration with host Ron Della Chiesa, Brandeis University (1988); Newton Symphony Orchestra Fourth Annual Benefit Pops Concert with host Ron Della Chiesa (1989); North Shore Philharmonic Christmas Pops with host Ron Della Chiesa (1991); Civic Pops (1987); Return to Broadway! Civic Symphony of Boston with host Ron Della Chiesa (1992); All Newton Music School Luncheon Series Presents Ron Della Chiesa on The Golden Age of Opera (1993); Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston Salute to the Metropolitan Opera with host Ron Della Chiesa (1993); The Sounds of Christmas, Wellesley Symphony Orchestra narrated by Ron Della Chiesa (1993).  

Photographs in the collection include early pictures of Aldo Della Chiesa and Florence A. Della Chiesa, Ron's parents; pictures of Ron as a child 1938-1953); Della Chiesa and his wife Joan on vacation in Florida (1980); and Della Chiesa in the studio alone (1963 and 1978) and with various musicians.  These include opera singer Licia Albanese (1975); Tony Bennett at the WGBH studio (1987); pianist Michael Feinstein at the WGBH studio (1987); saxophonist Stan Getz, with Ron and Joyce Della Chiesa (1990); trumpet player Dizzy Gillespie in the studio; composer Philip Glass in the WGBH studios (1982); opera singer Denyce Graves at a Boston University master class (2006); Boston television and radio political analyst John Henning (1978); opera singer Norman Kelley, in costume; drummer Buddy Rich; comedian Mort Sahl; and pianist Bobby Short.  There are also a number of head shots of musicians, many inscribed to Della Chiesa; they include Tony Bennett (photo by Annie Lebovitz), Barbara Bonney, Ernest Borgnine, Rosemary Clooney, Milton Cross, Buddy DeFranco, Placido Domingo, Eileen Farrell, Stan Getz, Anita Hollander, Linda Hopkins, Dick "Spider" Jackson, Erich Leinsdorf, Maureen McGovern, George Shearing, Frank Sinatra (publicity shot for Anchors Aweigh, 1945), Frank Sinatra, Jr., Jess Thomas, and John Williams.   

Correspondence in the collection contains fan mail (1985-2008) and other letters.  Notable correspondents include Claude Bolling, Bob Colonna, Milton Cross, and Sam Mele.  

Artwork in the collection consists of a lithograph of Arthur Fiedler, in profile, inscribed to Della Chiesa (1966).

Personal memorabilia consists of a matted presentation of a first day of issue U.S. Postal Service Frank Sinatra commemorative stamp (2008); and various awards, including awads from the Boston Musician's Association, AFM Local 9-535, making him an honorary member (2006); The Front Page Award for Excellence in Radio Journalism (1988); The New England Opera Club Jacopo Peri Award (1991); and The Peace Abbey Award (1995), presented to Della Chiesa by Tony Bennett on behalf of the Life Experience School, Sherborn, Massachusetts.
