Description:

Letter from Florence Nightingale to 'dearest friend' [Mary Jones], 1864.

Summary:

From 27 Norfolk Street, Park Lane. Wednesday morning (no date but Florence Nightingale was at this address in January and February 1865). Savings Banks and Deferred Annuities should both be used to give nurses financial security. In Roman Catholic countries individuals lack independence. Engagements for a term of years are better than indefinite ones. She sends principles which guided provision of wages and pensions for Army nurses, a sketch of Mrs Shaw Stewart and a book by Dr. Farr. She has sent to Embley for Christmas greeneries.
