Letter from Florence Nightingale to Rachel Williams, 31 Oct 1891


From Claydon House, Winslow, Buckinghamshire. She is glad she has decided to go to the Riviera, not further off. She longs to see her and hopes to be back in South Street before November 16th. She has constant press of work. They have had 14 Chairmen and Secretaries of County Council's and has had a Medical Officer of Health who is to teach women to teach rural mothers Health at Home, the first practical experiment of the kind. They had hoped to send Ellen Verney, aged 18 to Rachel Norris but have sent her to Canary Islands as her only chance of health. She is sorry Little Sister is poorly and hopes Miss Spencer, with her immense charge, is pretty well.
