1861: The American Civil War

This exhibition showcased material from the Philip Lantzy Collection, an archive of letters written by a civil war soldier that detail his daily life, observations of officers, technological innovations, and the length of the war.

Born in Carrolltown, PA in 1840, Philip A. Lantzy was raised a farmer. Like many zealous patriots, the 20 year old Lantzy enlisted as a private with the "Cambria Guards" (Co. A) of the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. The exhibit covered Lantzy's letters from 1861 to August, 1862.

This exhibition is no longer on view.
