Dean S. Edmonds, Jr. & the Blaise Pascal Rare Book Collection
This exhibition celebrates the life of Boston University professor, physicist, entrepreneur, and longtime Friends of the Libraries member Dean S. Edmonds, Jr. by displaying a selection of rare books by French philosopher and physicist Blaise Pascal.
The collection, donated by Prof. Edmonds in 1967, was formed over a period of years by his mother, bibliophile and Pascal scholar Mary Arms Edmonds. The collection features over a hundred and fifty books by and about Blaise Pascal and features rare early editions of the Les Provinciales, ou les lettres ecrites par Louis de Montalte a un Provincial de ses Amis and Pensees de M. Pascal. The exhibition also features contemporary printings of Pascal's other works, the various collected editions, and early translations and secondary sources.
