Richard North Patterson and the Well-Crafted Thriller
This exhibition documented the career and writing process of the prolific best-selling novelist Richard North Patterson, master of the legal/political thriller, beginning with a set of bound uncorrected proofs for his first novel, The Lasko Tangent. Shown with the book are two letters - the first, a rejection letter from a publisher choosing to pass on the manuscript; the second, a letter from the Mystery Writers of America, congratulating Patterson on the book's nomination for "Best First Novel of 1979."
The exhibition continued with pages of the author's handwritten notes, in some cases in bound journals, for the novels Private Screening (1985), Dark Lady (2000), Balance of Power (2003) and Eclipse (2009), as well as various states of corrected manuscript pages and the books themselves. Also included are examples of Patterson's correspondence from such notable figures as Barbara Bush, thanking him for participating in a White House reading program, and the late Senator Edward Kennedy, offering Patterson a book jacket blurb for Balance of Power.
This exhibition is no longer on view.
