The Sources of Tradition: The Sense of Tradition
Sep. 27, 1959
Sep. 27, 1959. Running time: 28:45. In this sermon, Thurman responds to a committee called to discuss changes to the style and function of worship at Marsh Chapel. Tradition is defined as the channel of transmission for ideas, experiences, concepts, and insights from one generation to the other and is necessary for the preserving of values. When tradition becomes narrowed and past-focused, it becomes an idol and leads to the death of freedom.
